A David L. Hoyt Education Foundation Initiative - Sponsored by Goodcity and The Chicago Community Trust In Partnership with the 47th Ward Alderman’s Office, ArtReach at Lillstreet, Lincoln Square-Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and North Center Chamber of Commerce What is Word Play Way? We are going to create a massive word grid that families and neighbors will be able to engage with as they walk the length of the sidewalk. Letters will form words that are fun and appropriate for kids and tie back into the neighborhood. An artist will design a font, community members can help create stencils, and help install the word grid.

We want to additionally give a SUPER special thanks to our very own superhero librarian John Mangahas for making this event a huge success and to our partners Sparkling Ice for their generous donation which allowed us to purchase the 20 games necessary to set the record, as well as their delicious water for our superheroes to replenish their powers. Big thank you to all and enjoy!~ Super Black, Make-A-Wish Illinois’ newest wish kid superhero, will be joining us at the Chicago Public Library this Sunday as we attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the Largest Playable Word Winder Board. Dear Friends,
We're a little over a week away from our "Super Explorers Set the World Record: Largest Playable Word Winder Board" on Sunday, July 16th at the Harold Washington Library's Winter Garden ( located on the 9th floor). The event will start at 1pm , with the record setting attempt beginning at 1:30. There will be craft stations and music for patrons to engage with when the GIANT [GIANT] Word Winder is not being played. In order to set the record we are arranging 20 sets of the GIANT Word Winder game in order to create one GIANT [Giant] Word Winder Board and play Word Winder Sprint! We will play several rounds until we narrow down our winner! The GIANT Word Winders which will be used during this event (and afterwards find home in various CPL branches) were purchased through the David L. Hoyt Education Foundation due to an extremely generous $9,500 donation from the Talking Rain Beverage Co. (the makers of Sparkling Ice). With their kind donation we are one step closer to our goal of securing a GIANT Word Winder for every CPL branch. We hope to see you there! |
