David L. Hoyt has always known the importance of education and knowledge. When he was a boy in Junior High, David visited a place called the Talcott Mountain Science Center, in Avon CT. There he was introduced to educational programming that taught him how to think outside of the box.
David has always cherished his time at the Talcott Mountain Science Center, and ever since has wanted to pay it forward and do something important for education. In the summer of 2015, David and his wife, Claire, formed the David L. Hoyt Education Foundation to do just that.
Being a game inventor, David easily found that when you combine education and play, you instantly have a situation where creative thinking takes place. Many of David's games allow for this, and in fact his game GIANT Word Winder is making a huge impact on learners in his home town of Chicago, and all the way across the globe in Tanzania, India, and Brazil.
Claire grew up in Green Bay, WI and found her path to the University of Illinois at Chicago where she obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Art History. After Claire finished college, she met David while he was in Chicago on business. They immediately hit it off, and it wasn't long before Claire moved to Los Angeles to pursue a Masters in Public Art Studies at the University of Southern California.
After graduating, Claire and David moved back to Chicago where she began working in Arts Education. Years later, when David created GIANT Word Winder, Claire began working with him and together they created the David L. Hoyt Education Foundation. They recognize an increasing need for more play-based learning and their foundation strives to make education fun and impactful.
Our GIANT games; GIANT Word Winder, GIANT Math Winder, and GIANT Jumble for the Classroom, are unique and expertly crafted by David. They can be used as learning tools for the young and old. In addition to being about spelling, vocabulary, and math, our GIANT games teach teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking and decision making skills. We believe that the GIANT-ness of our game allows for players to learn and practice these skills while physically moving their bodies, which reinforces those skills.
